In the past few weeks, the world has seen the suspension of many events and gatherings as governing bodies and organizations work to stay ahead of this COVID-19 threat. The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has suspended all competitions and events; it has been recommended that practices also be suspended for the health and safety of all stakeholders. This suspension may be extended upon review of the global and national situation in the coming weeks. The decision has been made in keeping with the current federal and provincial recommendations around mass participation events and large public gatherings.
Being committed to the safety of our members, the Alberta Fencing Association is indefinitely postponing all AFA sanctioned/supported events including:
CFF National Championships
Edmonton Open
Southern Alberta Cup
Epic Easter Cup
Alberta Provincial Championships
In regards to club activities, Alberta Fencing clubs and club members need to defer to their local municipalities and facilities and the recommendations laid out by them, as well as to use their best judgement for the safety of their families and club members.
We will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and will do our absolute best to communicate information regarding our practices and events as more details become available. We ask for your trust and support as we work with Alberta Sport, the Canadian Fencing Federation, and our clubs to ensure that well-educated decisions are made for the benefit of our members. Alberta Fencing would like to thank the fencing community for their understanding and cooperation during this trying period. Please keep yourself and your loved ones safe.In regards to travel outside of Canada, we ask that everyone follow any provincial and federal recommendations.
