Joining the AFA


There are two ways of joining the Alberta Fencing Association. You can either join the AFA through a registered club, or you can join as an unaffiliated member and apply directly to the AFA


Membership Levels

There are 2 membership levels to choose from depending on what level of participation in AFA events you wish to have.

Associate Membership (ASSC) - $15

The associate membership category allows individuals to partake in classes and events at affiliated clubs.
Benefits include:

  • Liability insurance coverage
  • Supporting the development of coaching and refereeing in Alberta
  • Administrative coordination between the clubs, provinces, and the Canadian Fencing Federation
  • Ability to sign up for various courses and events offered by the AFA

Competitive Membership (COMP) - $50

The competitive membership category provides all of the services of the associate membership level, as well as:

  • The ability to participate at a competitive level in Alberta and at out-of-province/country events
  • Being included in the Alberta Provincial rankings, and being eligible for performance funding
  • Subsidizing referees for provincial competitions
  • Subsidizing the purchase and maintenance of provincial tournament equipment

The best way to join the AFA would be contact a registered fencing club in your area; they will have all the necessary information available for you. You can also contact the AFA directly and we will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have regarding the sport, and registration.
